Friday Random Ten, the fourth
Another TGIF, another TGFFRT*. You know the drill:
Set the iPod (or inferior MP3 device) on shuffle and reveal the first ten tracks that appear, without any editing or omissions–likely with the customary bonus track that makes me wonder why we haven’t just started calling this the “Friday Random Eleven.” Let your musical taste (or the lack of same) be revealed in all its quirky glory.
Today’s contributions from Frankenpod:
- Art of Noise; Metaforce (The Seduction of Claude Debussey)
- Alanis Morrisette; Hand in My Pocket (Jagged Little Pill, the original)
- Neil Diamond; Forever in Blue Jeans (12 Greatest Hits, v. 2)
- Five for Fighting;. One More For Love (The Battle for Everything)
- Barenaked Ladies; Be My Yoko Ono (Disc One: All their Greatest Hits, 1991-2001)
- Michael Buble; Feeling Good (It’s Time)
- Aqua; Barbie Girl (Aquarium)
- Dave Matthews Band; Fool to Think (Everyday)
- The Lucy Station; Alright (Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me soundtrack)
- George S. Clinton; No Tuna (The Music of Red Shoe Diaries)
- OBLIGATORY BONUS: George S. Clinton; Chinatown (The Music of Red Shoe Diaries)
Explanations and associations?
Favorite song: I’m actually quite pleased with this bunch. The Art of Noise and BNL had me trying very hard not to embarrass myself by boogying during my walk to work. “Forever in Blue Jeans” is Mom’s favorite song from Neil, so that always makes me smile. But today, I’m declaring “Feeling Good” as the favorite song for one simple obsessive reason—I put this on repeat a few times before seeing what cropped up as #7 on my list.
Seen live: Dave Matthews Band, on the lawn at the Tweeter, summer 2004. Also another concert in my unprecedented run of opening acts with whom I fell in musical love: N.E.R.D.
Most embarrassing: “Barbie Girl.” Yes, I can say it’s all about an ironic affection for a deliberately ironic song. Still. I blush. Close runner-up: the Red Shoes Diaries music. Not just the statistical anomaly of having it show up twice (in a row!) from my 1800-song pool. True confession: I bought it for Matt ‘cos he said it souded romantic and sexy to him. Oh yes. I really truly did. And I blush again.
Other players: Ben. Howard. Lauren. Luna. Mark. (Last updated 9:40 AM)
