Friday Random Ten the seventh: the “A Break from the Eighties” edition
Friday, March 31st, 2006Well, in my day-to-day “Annual Alphabetic CD Crawl,” I’ve hit that long stretch that is my Time Life Sounds of the Eighties series. Here’s hoping that this week’s Friday Random Ten*–which I will be re-posting song by song (after the initial six-song clump from the walk to work)–draws from other decades of my collection.
- Stevie Wonder; Higher Ground (Song Review: Greatest Hits)
- The Rutles; Get Up and Go (eponymous)
- Prince f. Gwen Stefani; So Far, So Pleased (Rave Un2 the Joy Fantastic)
- Neil Diamond; Done Too Soon (Play Me: the Complete Uni Studio Recordings)
- Klaatu; I Can’t Help It (Endangered Species)
- Marc Anthony; She’s Been Good To Me (eponymous)
- Michael Stanley Band; All I Ever Wanted (Heartland)
- Green Day; Extraordinary Girl (American Idiot)
- Green Day; Holiday (American Idiot)
- Melissa Etheridge; Maybe I’m Strange (Breakdown)
- BONUS: Duran Duran; Shelter (”The Wedding Album”)
Explanations and Associations:
Seen Live: Prince, the Musicology Tour. Gosh, that was a fun show, even from the middle reaches of Wachovia Center seating.
Hometown Heros: MSB, who I discovered through my older sister when we lived in Ohio. I’m not sure how many times she and her friends saw the band at the Blossom Music Center. I, alas, was too young.
Statistical Anomaly: “Sieg Heil to the President Gas-man…”
Dodging the 80’s Bullet: To me recollection, only Michael Stanley’s album stems from that decade, and he wasn’t ever honored by inclusion in the Time-Life series….
Loving the FRT? Check out the other customary players: Ashley, Ben, Brian, Dodi, Fred, Howard, Jackilyn, Jill, Luna, Marisa, Mark (this week wirth an extra-special twist), Matthew.
* For the young’uns amongus, here’s the rules: Set your iPod (or inferior MP3 device) on shuffle and reveal the first ten tracks that appear, without any editing or omissions, and likely with the customary bonus track that makes me wonder why we haven’t just started calling this the “Friday Random Eleven.” Let your musical taste (or the lack of same) be revealed in all its quirky glory.
