Solid Stitching
Friday, December 31st, 2004Given the usual rate of progress in cross-stitch as depicted in the cartoon, how am I so certain I can finish the Pooh sampler for my niece-in-sin by the time her birthday rolls around in March?
The pictures tell the story, actually. First, just for the record, here’s a better picture of the model photo. (Yes, I’ve learned the most basic operations of the new camera. I’m guessing, though, that I took this on a much higher resolution than was really necessary, and that the pop-up window for the full size version will reveal some frighteningly gargantuan piece of bad digital photography.)
Perhaps this completed version already points to the easiness. It’s based on a cartoon, and indeed has a very cartooney color scheme: huge blocks of solid colors, pretty much nothing in the way of subtle shading.
What that means is that after less than 20 hours stitching (no, I don’t really keep track of my hours, but thinking on the last few days, I’d estimate myself to be lower than the 20 hour mark quoted by Agnes), you can see a lot more than "a bit of Pohh bear’s butt." To wit:
It’s recognizably all of Pooh, except for his shirt (cross-stitching a naked Pooh bear—that could earn some bizarro goolgle hits). No squinting required.
