Any Pin in a Storm
Tuesday, January 30th, 2007I am not too proud to admit…
I hemmed my pants at my desk this morning with a stapler.
My work wardrobe lately has been an exercise in rediscovering clothes that haven’t fit me for more than a year. When I put on today’s slacks, they seemed a little long, but I was in a hurry, so I just tucked ‘em into my ankle-height Bean Boots and headed out to work. “These pants were always a bit long,” I thought to myself as I dashed out the door.
It wasn’t until I was at my desk changing into respectable shoes that the full import of that memory hit me.
These pants were always a bit long, back when they still fit. Back when:
- I didn’t yet have plantar fasciitis
- I wore high heels that compensated for the pant length
Which means, of course, that “a bit long” has become “epically over-long.”
And that’s when I grabbed the stapler and did a quick extra turn-up of the pants hem.
